I’m listening to one of my favourite songs this year (so far). It’s One Republic’s ‘Run’, and it really gets me in the mood to be productive. Hence, I am writing this blog post, which is my monthly seasonal foods post.
I really need to start writing these at the beginning of the month, but I honestly have so much to post at the beginning of the month, this sort of slips towards the end of the month. Hey ho, let’s see if I can change it going forward from August.
A lot of the foods that are seasonal in June are also seasonal in July. There’s a whole glut of stuff out there at the moment, and I’m relishing in all the fruit. We’ve got fruit growing in the garden, and we’ve already harvested quite a bit of it. Tomatoes, beans, onions, garlic, redcurrants, even a few raspberries (though some are likely to come a bit later as we planted late). Our blueberry bush is brimming, but they’re not quite ripe yet… hopefully by the end of next month we’ll get a great crop.
There’s something so pure about harvesting food from your own garden. I hold my hands up and say I’m not responsible – my mum is the one with greenfingers. I wish I had her talents – and the time, but maybe one day when I have my own place and ability to garden, even if it’s inside, I’ll hone those skills. I’m a Taurus, and surely that means I have some ability to grow my own? I am an Earth sign after all, and even my moon and rising signs are Earth signs… sigh. I’ll find out one day.
But… let’s get onto the food of the month and some lovely recipes you can try out for yourself. I’ve found a whole host of them, from baking (I’m so trying the GF and DF beetroot brownies) to breakfast (move over smashed avo, we’ve got to try smashed broad beans).
