Summer is upon us! And therefore the number of fruits available has bloomed. I love this time of year purely for the glut of my favourite fruits – strawberries, raspberries, cherries… the list goes on and on.
We’ve recently planted strawberries in our garden, so we’re eagerly awaiting the fruit – hopefully by the end of the summer season we’ll have tasted our home-grown produce. We’ve also got a cherry tree, blueberry bush, raspberry plants, alongside the vegetable patch at the back of our house. The onions, potatoes, and beetroot are doing well, and hopefully harvest time will see a great array of fruit and veg, even if we may have to give some away or freeze the surplus.
It’s not me who is the gardener but rather my mum, who I swear has green fingers. I wish my Taurean star sign could be right about me being one with the earth, but to be honest my head is far more in the clouds than on the ground. I listen to my mum’s prideful words about her garden though, and we take walks around the space on sunny days after she has worked hard on weeding or pruning. I work from home at the moment, so I’m stuck indoors despite the lovely view from the makeshift office window.
But even if I’m stuck indoors most of the time, I can still appreciate good food! So without further ado, here’s a list of seasonal foods for June and some chosen recipes… I am so tempted to make the gluten-free cherry bakewell muffins…
